BACKS RESIDENTS AT WIMPEY ENQUIRY
Local
MP Nigel Waterson is joining residents in opposing
plans for 140 new homes in Kings Drive. Nigel
redeemed a promise to attend this week’s
Public Inquiry and give evidence against the
proposed development.
Nigel said: “I have heard
from a great number of my constituents in the
area. I share their concerns. The Inspector
needs to know the strength of public feeling
on this issue.”
“This development seems
to me to be wholly inappropriate for the area.
There would be huge problems with traffic access
to Kings Drive. This is already a busy road,
especially with volumes of traffic to and from
the DGH, including emergency vehicles. The pressure
on the Rodmill Roundabout, already huge, would
become dangerously unmanageable.”
“I believe there are also
legitimate concerns about flooding. And I think
the visual aspect will be unattractive, with
significant ‘massing’ of housing.
The environmental impact is also a major issue.”
“In short, the tranquil
rural scene (including grazing cows) which now
greets people driving along Kings Drive would
be replaced by a huge block of buildings which
would utterly ruin local vistas. How this land
ever got into the Borough Plan for housing development
mystifies me.”
“So for all these reasons
I have joined with local residents in opposing
the development. I hope it will be rejected
by the Inspector in due course.”
