HERITAGE
AT RISK, SAYS MP
Eastbourne
MP Nigel Waterson has expressed his ‘serious
concern’ following an English Heritage
report which criticises the state of repair
of local historic buildings. The newly published
“Heritage at Risk Register” states
that the Redoubt fortress and two historic Martello
Towers in Eastbourne are in “poor”
condition.
The report alleges that part
of the Redoubt in particular “is in very
poor condition”, that there is “water
ingress” and that “the moat walls
are decaying”.
Nigel commented: “I hope
that the owners of these historic structures
– especially the Borough Council who own
the Redoubt – will act on this Report.
Its findings are very worrying indeed.”
