VISITS DGH
Local
MP Nigel Waterson visited the Seaford 1 ward
at the DGH this week. He wanted to see for himself
measures taken by the Trust to segregate the
sexes and to ensure privacy. He was shown the
new doors installed to close off the bays within
the ward. And he was shown the separate toilet
and bathing facilities now in place.
Nigel commented after his visit: "I know
from my mailbag that unnecessary distress has
been caused over the years, especially to female
patients, by mixed-sex wards. I am delighted
that the Trust now have a strict policy of separating
the sexes. And the work done on doors and toilet
and bathing facilities is important in delivering
this policy."
"There is no place for mixed-sex wards
in the 21st century. This Government promised
to scrap them back in 1997. Our local DGH has
done as much as it can; but to have totally
segragated facilities would be hugely expensive,
and that would require central government funding."
