HIGHLIGHTS TRANSPORT NEEDS
Eastbourne
& Willingdon MP Nigel Waterson highlighted
the problems with local transport links when
he quizzed a Government minister this week.
Nigel was speaking at the first meeting of the
South East Regional Grand Committee, held in
Reading.
Nigel
asked Jonathan Shaw MP, the Minister for the
South East: “It is bad enough that there
are centralised house building targets imposed
from above. It is made worse by the lack of
investment in our transport infrastructure.
Will the Minister talk to his colleagues in
the Department of Transport about improving
our inadequate rail service in the area and
between Eastbourne and London, as well as long
overdue improvements to the A27 between Lewes
and Polegate, which is crippling economic development?”
In
response, the Minister could only refer to already-completed
improvements at Beddingham to the A27.
Afterwards,
Nigel commented: “I was disappointed by
the lack of a positive message from the Minister.
I have long campaigned for better rail services
and for the upgrading of the A27. It seems both
these aspirations will have to await a Conservative
government.”
